I noticed the request for alternate 1200k brevet routes on the Club web site and thought I'd send you the attached. It's a route I've been kicking around for some time now and it might be of interest to you. I've ridden all of it except the leg S to Trail from the Paulson Summit and then back N to Castlegar, although I've not done it in one go. The route builds on the Southern Rambles route I put together and which is in the "Permanents" archive of routes. I think it's very scenic; it includes the South Okanagan, the Kettle Valley, the South Colmbia River Valley, Kootenay Lake, Arrow Lakes, Monashee Pass, the Thompson Nicola area, and the Similkameen Valley, all showpieces of this part of BC in my mind. Traffic on the roads used is minimal except where the route goes through Vernon and Kamloops and I could minimize that with some more thought. Road conditions are quite acceptable throughout. Various Southern Interior Brevets have, at some point, included virtually all of the route.

The Walmart people in Penticton have allowed the use of their parking lot as a start/finish in the past and I think this could be arranged in the future. Some of the Controls along the route might have to be self controls because of open/close time requirements, but that would mean fewer volunteers.
