The country by country brevets and distances breakdown, that had been a feature of past PBP plaquettes, is not in the 1999 issue. The only information of this type is a listing of "points" for each country. The point system is meant, it seems, to measure participation in randonneur cycling worldwide. The formula is the same one that has been used for many years: a point is brevet distance divided by 100. A 6 point bonus is given for women who finish PBP. To get the distance we have to determine the number and distribution of women PBP finishers (from the results list, pages: 40-60), subtract the 6 point "girl bonus," and then multiply by 100 - this is what I have done in the chart above.
