Notes for the October 2010 ride:

From Tracy & Bob: We propose a three loop 1004k brevet beginning at Sigi and Leona's B&B 833 Parker, White Rock. Starting time is 0700 to allow a little extra time for some to get to the start from Vancouver. The route is designed to front load distance of 367k followed by Day 2 - 345k and a Day 3 - 291k. Climbing and maximum elevations are moderated if not minimized.

Additional:

Total km of 1004k. Total climbing less than 4500m. Highest point of elevation 211m. Total controls = 23 designed to have stops every 50-65k.

A passport or similar document will be needed to cross into and out of the US four times. Both Peace Arch and the 176st crossing are utilized. I received word from the WASDOT bike coordinator that both are good for bikes both ways now.

Bob has made arrangements with Doug for RandoPony preregistration. I will have the route sheet available by September 30 (separated into each loop distance and total distance) and control cards made up soon after. We expect to pre-ride Day 1 loop (at the least) a week before the ride and scope out any terrain that is questionable (i.e. Whatcom Lake).

Accommodation:

We have receive a generous offer from Sigi and Leona who have a B&B in White Rock:

"Leona and I (Sigi) would like to offer our basement suit with full Kitchen and 2 bathrooms 2 bedrooms: garage for bikes and 6 parking spaces. You just need to bring your sleeping bag, floor pad, towel. FREE .!!!!

We also have private bedrooms upstairs, since we operate a B&B, special club prices for the event would be $80 per room.

Marine Drive and Parker 833 on the corner of the Semiahmon Park in White Rock.

Owner manager has agreed a special rate of $79/night for a room with 2 double beds If you mention that you are booking for the BC Randonneurs 1000k event.

Peace Arch Inn (Best Western)
http://www.peacearchinn.com/
Best to book online. The online rate is better than the rate if booked by phone (604-541-8100).
Prices $99-124.99/night. Likely location of the overnight control.
Note from Bob about the Best Western:
I talked to the manager of the Best Western. He is offering rooms with 2 doubles or 2 queens at $80 per night. This is the corporate rate and should be mentioned by anyone booking a room there.
It isn’t clear if we can get a room with a kitchenette or not. Right now they are all booked but he says that could change. I would like to get a room with a kitchen for the control so I can offer hot food. But it currently doesn’t look that feasible at either motel. So for now the control location is not decided.
