1956: #
801 - Jacques AUDIBERTI, Nice - France

Back of 1956 pin
The 1956 and 1961 pins
come courtesy of Alain Collongues.
There's a story behind the pins and the rider who earned them.
The following is part of an e mail message from Alain:
I have found on e-Bay two very interesting
PBP medals that were sold by auction by a man living in the city
of Nice. According to the times which are engraved there is no
doubt. These are the medals of a very famous French rider named
Jacques AUDIBERTI, who also lived in the city of Nice. The first
one is the medal from 1956 (64:25) and the second one is the medal
of 1961 (62:03). Jacques AUDIBERTI was born in 4 July 1905 and
died in 16 August 1969. He had ridden all that was possible to
ride - Tour de France (2 times), Flèche Vélocio
(many times), Paris-Brest-Paris (5 times), all the Diagonales...
and many others. He was a very modest man, but a super randonneur.
He was killed on the road, during a night as he was cycling, by
the driver of a van who said he had not seen his red-light. [Alain
Collongues, August 2009]
