Spences Bridge Permanent
Permanent 195, 302 km
Ride date: July 20, 2019
by Bob Goodison

That was hard! Started off in a light drizzle- more of a mist- that lasted a couple of hours. Headwinds from Stump Lake to Upper Nicola, then tailwinds on Highway 8 to Spences Bridge. Highway 8 was a treat, with no traffic and beautiful scenery. I found an apricot tree overhanging the road in Spences Bridge and picked some (not enough) into my handlebar bag. Best road snacks ever. Filling bottles at the Hand pump at Goldpan Provincial Park took a bit of fiddling to get the aim right. The traffic wasn't bad on Highway 1, but the shoulder is rough and covered with debris in many places. I destroyed a rear tire between Spences Bridge and Cache Creek- not sure if something cut it, or it just failed. Headwinds, hills and tire issues took their toll on my speed average in the last half, and I finished it in 13:12.
Thanks, Bob
