Accommodation Information
This is Ken's "e mail Communication # 3" (April 30):
Hi!
The following information is intended to augment the accommodation
information available on the VanIsle 1200 webpage and your own
research. Please remember that each rider is responsible for arranging
and paying for their own accommodation. All prices are in Canadian
dollars.
Note: The dates of the VanIsle 1200 randonnee coincide with the
beginning of the high tourist season on Vancouver Island ... yes,
even the motels in the wilderness areas are popular. It would
be wise to make your accommodation arrangements as soon as possible.

ACCOMMODATION
ALONG THE ROUTE
Motel, Hotel or Bed & Breakfast accommodation can be found
at most towns and near most controls along the route of the VanIsle
1200. Please refer to the BC Accommodation Guide noted above.
Based on my earlier estimated 400 kms to Campbell River, most
riders have indicated that they are likely to be reserving accommodation
in Campbell River, both on the way to, and way back from, Port
Hardy. A few riders have mentioned they might try to ride as far
as Sayward or Woss on the first day, stopping at Woss or Sayward
on the way back from Port Hardy with another night's rest in Duncan
(about 1065 km. along the way) before completing the randonnee.
As you can see from email communication #2, the actual mileage
to Campbell River is 382 km.; and the mileage to the turnaround
at Port Hardy is 617 km.
CAMPBELL RIVER
Campbell River Lodge (kilometre 382.3 and 851.6) http://www.campbellriverlodge.com/
This is where the bag-drop control will be. A SPECIAL VanIsle
1200 room rate is available -- $73+tax(single) and $83+tax(double)
for the nights of July 5, 6 & 7, 2006. To obtain this rate,
please refer to - Ken Bonner VanIsle 1200 room rate. Accommodation
level is moderate. RESERVE NOW
Friendship Inn (motel and trailer park). Telephone: 1-250-287-9591
or Fax 1-250-287-2090. This inexpensive motel is 3 km. north of
the Campbell River Lodge and is the last easily accessible motel
until the riders reach Sayward. Duncan Bay Grocery Store is right
next door -- open 5:30 am - 9:30 pm daily.
If reserving a room here, ask for Michele and refer to Ken Bonner
VanIsle 1200 room rate - $45+tax(single) and $55+tax(double).
RESERVE NOW
Campbell River has many motels along the seaside. However, this
is a popular tourist destination, particularly for fisherfolks
from around the world. RESERVE NOW!
NOTE: Most of the other motels in the Campbell River area are
a few kilometres south of the control. They are fine establishments,
however, should you decide to reserve a room on the way up to
Port Hardy, you need to ensure you will sign into the control
at the Campbell River Lodge before the control closes, approximately
8:00 am Thursday, July 6th.

SAYWARD
Fisherboy Park http://www.fisherboypark.com/ (family campground,
motel and convenience store open 9:30 am - 9:30 pm.) This is at
the Sayward Control (kilometre 446.7 and 787.1) The village of
Sayward is several kms. away from the Control which is just off
the highway. There is only one easily accessible motel just a
few 100 metres away from the Control. Clean and neat. No special
rate. Nine rooms. Just book early as other cycle groups use this
motel. Telephone Toll Free: 1-866-357-0598; email: fisherboypark@telus.net

PORT HARDY
Port Hardy Inn (kilometre 617.0km) Across the street from the
Shell Station Control. Has its own family-style restaurant. If
a rider plans to arrive late; for an extra price, they will probably
prepare a night-time 'lunch' of a sandwich, fruit and juice (ask
when making the reservation). Very special VanIsle room rate --
$65+tax (single or double). To obtain this special price refer
to the room rate Kathy offered Ken Bonner for the VanIsle 1200.
Kathy knows me as the cyclist who for the past 17 years, makes
a weekend cycle trip from Victoria to Port Hardy and return once
a year (the Vancouver Island Hare & Tortoise 1000k brevet)
